International Praise for Slashboy "[Slashboy] has more definitions in it than some papers I've read!" --Peter Sells (p.c. 2008)
F.A.Q. (that haven't yet been frequently asked.)
What is Slashboy? Slashboy is a comic strip that was originally inspired by Ivan Sag's unbounded dependencies syntax class during Winter 2008. It continues to be inspired by syntax and other linguistics readings, sayings, over-heard-ings, or anything else I deem to be linguistic and inspiring. Ideally, barring force majeures, school breaks, and way too much to do in my real "day" job, Slashboy is a weekly strip.
What is the.Whiteboard? the.Whiteboard is a one-frame comic that originated as random and (I thought) funny drawings of my quirky imagination that I would do every now and then on my whiteboard in the office. I bought the whiteboard to help with work, and while it still serves that purpose every now and then, the "thoughts" I ended up drawing more often proved to be far more entertaining as well.
What is Moraless.funology? Well, by popular demand (popular meaning a few, but that's a large population in linguistics!), I needed a place to "publish" and host the Slashboy series. Moraless.funology is an umbrella for both Slashboy and the.Whiteboard.
No, duh, but what does it mean? Moraless.funology actually comes from my undergraduate days. Sharon Inkelas must be credited for her mora-less ('more-or-less') pun while, as a phonologist, fun-ology has always topped my favorites list as well. Basically, moraless.funology means nothing, but if you want it to mean something (damn semanticists), you can think about it as these comics being more or less funny, depending on who you are, how much of a linguistic dork you are, and how late at night (and after how many syntax trees you've drawn) it is that you're reading these....
And, who are you? Come On! That's the most boring question.
